China-bred softshell turtle

This China-bred softshell turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis) has a leathery, flat shell and a long, snorkel-like snout — built for life in muddy riverbeds. Calm, quiet, and surprisingly responsive to feeding routines. Requires a 75+ gallon tank with deep, sandy substrate and strong filtration. Prefers slightly warmer water (78–82°F) and low lighting. Not aggressive, but will eat small fish — best kept alone or with large tankmates. We raise ours in naturalistic, planted systems to preserve its wild instincts. A rare find in the U.S. — ideal for collectors of exotic reptiles.
